FIELD: radio engineering. SUBSTANCE: given verifier includes winding which is fed with alternating current to create uniform magnetic field within bounds of spatial zone determined beforehand. When document is passed in close proximity of excitation winding applied magnetic field saturates zones of magnetic material on protective strip. Magnetic zones form responding magnetic field that is magnetic field with nonlinear characteristics having component with basic frequency and various harmonic frequency components. Reading winding detects responding magnetic field. Signal processor coupled to reading winding uses responding signals with basic frequency and frequencies of harmonics to determine merits of document.
