PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oil agent which is odorless and has excellent rust- proofing properties by compounding a higher secondary alcohol alkoxylate prepared from an 8-30C olefin and a (poly)alkylene glycol and/or a higher secondary alcohol alkoxylate prepared from the higher secondary alcohol alkoxylate and a 2-8C alkylene oxide. SOLUTION: An 8-30C olefin such as 1-dodecene or the like is heated to convert it partially into inner dodecene, and to the obtained mixture is added a (poly)ethylene glycol to obtain a higher secondary alcohol alkoxylate (A) represented by formula I. The tilted oil agent comprises this compound A and/or a higher secondary alcohol alkoxylate (B), represented by formula II, prepared by the addition of a 2-8C alkylene oxide to the compound (A). The compound B comprises 30-90 mole % of those having methyl group as R<1> and 70-10 mole % of those having alkyl group having at least 2 carbon atoms as R<1> . In the formulae, R<1> and R<2> are each alkyl; M is 2-6C alkylene; m is 1-20; and N is 2-8C alkyl or the like. |
