PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adhesive rubber composition capable of stably developing adhesive strength, useful for a steel cord coating rubber, etc., for a pneumatic tire having excellent durability, by compounding a rubber component with sulfur and an ester compound. SOLUTION: This composition comprises compounding of (A) a rubber component which is a natural rubber or a synthetic rubber, (B) an ester compound (e.g. a mono- or diester) obtained from an alcohol [e.g. normal or (ante) isoaliphatic monool or 1,2-diol, sterol, triterpene alcohol, containing 5-25C] and an organic acid [e.g. (OH-substituted at theαorω-position) normal or (ante)isofatty acid], (C) sulfur and optionally (D) an organic acid cobalt salt. Preferably the composition comprises 1-10 pts.wt. of the component B and 3-7 pts.wt. of the component C based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A.
