PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To plate both surfaces of a membrane with platinum at one time by grinding the surfaces of a membrane to obtain rough surfaces, forming a platinum thin film on each surface by sputtering, heat treating in hot water, treating with a reducing agent in a hydrazine-hydrate soln., and bringing the both surface into contact with a chloroplatinic acid soln. in a fluidized state. SOLUTION: After the surface is polished, the membrane is boiled in boiling pure water for 1 to 2 hours to remove impurities. Argon gas is introduced into a sputtering device, the pressure is adjusted to almost 10<-1> Pa to generate glow discharge between a platinum target and a substrate on which an ion exchange membrane is mounted. Thus, sputtering is caused to deposit platinum atoms on the ion exchange membrane to form a thin film. Then the membrane is heat-treated in warm pure water and reduced in a hydrazine monohydrate (H2 NNH2 .H2 O) soln. Then the ion exchange membrane 1 is held and fastened in plating cells A and B, a chloroplatinic acid (H2 PtCl6 .6H2 O) soln. 5 is supplied through a ventilation port and circulated by a circulating pump D so that the liquid in a fluidized state is brought into contact with the membrane to plate the both surfaces at one time. |
