FLAMEPROOF PLASTIC COMPOUND AND PRODUCTION OF FILLER THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fireproof plastic compound containing a filler having a high decomposition temperature and capable of being easily compounded with a plastic, capable of retarding the decomposition of the plastic at high temperature and having a high original form-retaining property by adding specific boehmite in a specified amount to the plastic. SOLUTION: This fireproof plastic compound contains 55-75 wt.% of boehmite. The boehmite is characterized by having a rhombic crystal structure, the general formula: AlOx (OH)3-2x [(x) value is 0.8-0.99], and an average particle diameter defined by a d50 value of 0.4-0.7μm, a d10 value is 0.7-1.2μm and a d90 value of 0.2-0.4μm. The filler for the fireproof plastic compound is produced by dispersing gibbsite in a suspension state and subjecting the suspension to a hot water process at 220-240 deg.C under a turbulent flow condition without mechanically treating the gibbsite.
