PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module and a photodetector with which reflection back is reduced and improvement in photodetection sensitivity is attained. SOLUTION: Concerning an optical module 150, a WG-PD 100 is mounted on the surface of a module substrate 140. In such mounting, a first incidence plane 120b1 and a second incidence plane 120b2 of the WG-PD 100 are arranged while being inclined about at 45 deg. to a waveguide end face 142b. Concerning the optical module 100, a photodetection plane 120b of a photodetection part 120 is formed from the first incidence plane 120b1 and the second incidence plane 120b2. Therefore, light emitted from the waveguide end face 142b is made incident to the photodetection plane 120 (first incidence plane 120b1 or second incidence plane 120b2) at the incidence angle of about 45 deg.. As a result, one part of incident light to the photodetection part 120 is reflected almost vertically with an incidence direction and the other part is obliquely propagated inside the photodetection part 120. |
