PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for a refrigerant, useful as a replacement for Refrigerant 502, which has reduced ozone depletion potential and flame- retardancy, by combining an effective amount of pentafluoroethane (HFC-125) or 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HFC-143a) with one or more of specified compounds in a specific ratio thereof. SOLUTION: There are provided six combinations by which the composition is constituted. Some examples of the combinations in a weight ratio are enumerated as given below: the combination (1) of 30-55 wt.% chlorodifluoromethane (HCFC-22), 30-60 wt.% HFC-143a and 3-15 wt.% 1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a); the combination (2) of 60-90% HFC-125, 5-20% fluoroethane (HFC-161) and 3-15% HFC-134a; the combination (3) of 30-50% HCFC-22, 20-60% HFC-143a and 10-45% octafluoropropane (FC-218); and (4) 35-65% HCFC-22, 34-64% HFC-125 and 1-15% dimethylether. |
