PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a breakage detection device without requiring any light- emitting means. SOLUTION: A detection device is provided with a light-screening hood 2 on a window glass 1, a first luminous energy detection means 3 for detecting the luminous energy of upper light 8, and a second luminous energy detection means 4 for detecting the luminous energy of front light 9 in the light-screening hood 2, a means for sampling the output of the luminous energy detection means 3 and 4, and a storage means 6 for storing the data of first and second detection luminous energy I1 and I2 being sampled by the sampling means 5 as time-series data. Then, a breakage calculation means 7 that is composed of an amount-of- change calculation means for calculating first and second amount-of-changeΔI1 andΔI2 of the detection luminous energy I1 and I2 from the data of the detection luminous energy I1 and I2 and a change ratio calculating means for calculating a change ratio P from the amount of changeΔI1 andΔI2 is connected to the device.
