摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for miniaturizing an optical system of a reflective type liquid crystal projector. SOLUTION: A luminous flux from a light source 1 is s-polarized through a polarizing plate 2, and a dichroic mirror 3 reflects G and transmits RB. The reflected G-color light is analyzed by reflecting it by a 1st PBS 4, making it incident on a reflective type liquid crystal 5g for G, polarization-modulating it and making it incident on PBS 4 again. The luminous flux modulated in the optical intensity is transmitted through a 2nd PBS 8, and is made incident on a projection lens 10. RB-color light transmitted through the dichroic mirror 3 is reflected by a mirror 6 and is transmitted through the 2nd PBS 8 after p-polarizing the light via a half-wavelength plate 7. Further, B-color light reflected by a dichroic prism 9 is made incident on a reflective type liquid crystal 5b for B for polarization-modulation, and made incident on the dichroic prism 9 and the 2nd PBS 8 again for analyzing and made incident on a projector lens 10. Similarly, R-color light transmitted through the dichroic mirror 9 is polarization-modulated by a reflective type liquid crystal 5r, and is analyzed by the PBS 8 and made incident on the projector lens 10.
