PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for polymerization capable of producing a highly stereoregular poly-α-olefin having good fluidity. SOLUTION: This catalyst forα-olefin polymerization comprises (A) a solid catalyst component obtained by carrying out preliminary polymerization of anα-olefin in the presence of (a) a solid component consisting essentially of magnesium, titanium, a halogen and an electron donating compound and (b) trimethylaluminum or an aluminum compound represented by the formula, AlR3 (R is hydrogen atom or an alkyl group), (B) an organoaluminum compound represented by the formula, (R<k> )r Al(Y)3-r [R<k> is an alkyl group or the like; Y is an alkoxy group or the like; 0<=(r)<=3], (C) an alkylalkoxysilane compound and (D) a compound represented by the formula, MetRx [Met is B, Mg, Al, Ga, Ge, In, Sn, Sb or a transition metal element; R is a halogen atom or a hydrocarbon-containing group; (x) is an atomic valence of Met].
