The decision section leaves unacceptable mails in the mail server and stores the number of mails left and the message ID of the latest mail in a first RAM as the remaining mail number K and the remaining mail ID. During the next access, the decision section retrieves the message ID of the K-th mail among the mails stored in the mail server and compares it with the remaining mail ID. When these IDs agree, the decision section receives the (k+1)th and the subsequent mails. By distinguishing between the remaining mails and the newly arrived mails, it is possible to avoid repetitively receiving the remaining mails. With this method, the mail server can be used as a secondary storage device in which to leave the electronic mails and, during the subsequent accesses, the new electronic mails that have arrived thereafter can be discriminated from the remaining electronic mails.
