The present invention provides a composition comprising an acceptable diluen t or carrier and high surface area zinc oxide, having a surface area between 3 0 m2/g and 100 m2/g and a particle size between 0.1 and 200 .mu.m, said high surface area zinc oxide being present in an amount sufficient to absorb odou r. The compositions may be for cosmetic or oral use and may be used to treat ba d breath and body odour in humans.
