The method involves receiving payload (N) and filler data (F) as a data stream (DS1) with constant data rate (DRk) via a circuit switched connection of a first communication network (ISDN). The filler data included in the data stream are removed and the payload are transmitted, formatted as data stream (DS2) with variable data rate (DRv), via a packet oriented connection of a second communication network (UMTS). Preferably, quality data (Qos) are sent to the second communication network for identifying the transmission quality of the packet oriented connection. A mean data rate and a maximum data rate for the data stream with variable data rate are determined as quality data.
