The process involves the functional checking of an ignition circuit with an igniter (1) controlled by switches (S.H, S.L). The checking current (Ip) flowing through the ignition circuit is monitored. If this current exceeds a present maximum value, the checking current is automatically switched off and/or the switches in the ignition circuit are automatically opened.
