In a process to insert a wire helicoil within a threaded cylindrical passage, the helicoil is positioned within a cylindrical tube (16) , the inner diameter of which is greater than that of the helicoil outer diameter. The lower inner section of the tube has a converging cross section and outer bevel. The bevel is presented to the receiving work-piece, alligning the helicoil with the recess (8). A tool (11) inserted through the tube (5) rotates and advances the helicoil (1) into the cavity while simultaneously reducing the helicoil cross section. The helicoil is released into the receiving thread and rotated until correctly positioned.
