The joint for drill rod sections has an outer sleeve end (1) and an inner insert end (2) connected together. The sleeve inner shoulder (3) engages the insert end face (10) through 90 percent of the extension limit of the connecting faces when pressed together. Excess pressure loads are fed through the end face (4) of the sleeve.
