Desulphurizing slag regeneration

Desulphurizing slag (3) is regenerated by means of a gaseous oxidation agent blown into the slag within an immersed bell (5) below the slag surface. The bottom rim of the bell is located below the slag surface and above the pig iron/slag boundary. The resulting gas containing SO2 is extracted from the bell. An Independent claim is given for an apparatus used to implement the process and including an immersion bell with means for injecting gaseous oxidation agents and for extracting the resultant gases.
