Procedure in which, when a fire or danger report is received by an elevator pertaining to a specific escape floor, then the elevator independently tests the escape floors neighboring the target floor for danger reports until a danger free escape floor is found and then guides the elevator cabin (4) towards it, before allowing any passengers to disembark. An Independent claim is made for equipment for use with control of the elevator cabin in conjunction with the above procedure.
