The igniting surface (35) is supported on a thick layer heating element (16) and a heat conductor is formed by a thick layer resistance (30) located on an insulation layer (26). The lighter has an outer electrode (2) formed by a metal cup with an even, circular base (3) and radial through-hole (4). The cup edge (5) has a cylindrical section (6) at the edge which fits into an on-board plug. An insert (15) is set into the outer electrode. The insert contains a round disk shaped thick film heating element (16), and a round metal pin holder (17) attached to the middle of the heating element and protruding through the through hole. The holder serves as an inner electrode for electrical connection of the thick layer heating element. The heating element has a plate shaped steel core body (20). The metal core is covered on both sides with insulation layers (22,24). On the ring shaped insulation layer there is a heating conductor in the form of a ring shaped thick layer resistor (30). A contact layer (33) of electric conducting material provides conductive connection between resistor and metal core (20). External contact layer (34) touches resistor and is in contact with bulge (9) of metal cup (6). When voltage is applied between the inner electrode (17) and outer electrode (2) heating conductor layer is heated up. The heating element (16) is heated up and leads to even heating of upper surface (35) of insulation layer (22) which serves as electric heated ignition surface.
