The endoscope (10) comprises a shaft (18) in which an optical system is arranged. The shaft (18) comprises inner and outer shafts (50) which surrounds the inner shaft at a distance, where the optical system is arranged in the inner shaft. The endoscope (10) is used for inspecting an observation cavity, especially an observation cavity (12) in which a hot medium (14) and/or infrared radiation (16) exist(s). The shaft (18) is configured in the area of the distal end so that the shaft is impermeable to electromagnetic radiation in the infrared spectral range.
