<p>An elastic sheath (26) and a retaining ring (32) is provided for a stethoscope having a head (12), a sound tube (20) and an earpiece (24). The sheath (26) has an open end for admittance of the head (12) and a portion of the sound tube (20) and a closed end. The sheath (26) is sized such that the head (12) of the stethoscope and at least a portion of the sound tube (20) is enveloped by the sheath (26). The retaining ring (32) is mounted to the sound tube (20) and extends radially outwardly therefrom. The retaining ring (32) is sized such that the sheath (26) plastically deforms to envelop the retaining ring (32). The retaining ring (32) thus releasably retains the sheath (26) on the stethoscope.</p> |
