A food container has a cylindrical centre section made of paper, carton or a multi-layered combination of different carton and paper grades. One end of the carton tube is closed and sealed with a sheet metal base (4), prior to filling through the other end. The open end is then closed with a pre- fabricated deep-drawn sheet metal cap with a surrounding rolled bead which is pushed into place and then rolled back clamping it into position.
