PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sterilizing, deactivating or oxidizing microorganisms such as virus, or ammonia, bilirubin, a poison or the like, in a solution such as waterworks, drainage, a blood component and seawater, and further to provide a method for producing a cytokine by activating cells such as leukocytes. SOLUTION: Blood in extracorporeal circulation is passed through electrodes having voltage within a range hardly causing electrolysis to deactivate pathogenic viruses in the blood by the action of the voltage and the electric current and returned to the human body. The blood or lymph of the human body is subjected to the extracorporeal circulation, and allowed to pass through between the electrodes to stimulate the ion channel on the surface of a cell such as lymphocyte, the change of a cell membrane potential, a pump on the surface of the cell, or the like by the action of the voltage and the electric current to forcibly open the ion channel or the like and activate the cells to produce an interleukin and an interferon, which are cytokines. |
