A piezoelectric ceramic composition, comprises a strontium-bismuth niobate-based ceramic compound and a small amount of manganese. A piezoelectric ceramic composition comprises up to 1.0 wt. % manganese (expressed as MnCO3) and, as main component, a ceramic compound of formula (Sr1-xMx)Bi2Nb2O9, where M = divalent metal and x = 0 to 0.3.
