A bathroom water supply is sterilized in a reactor (7) containing a Xenon-quartz flashlight (14). Incoming water is exposed to light flashes and germs killed. The rate of incoming water flow (1) is monitored by a flow sensor (6) the output signals from which are fed to a microprocessor (11). The microprocessor controls the flash (14) frequency, increasing the frequency with an increase water flow.
