PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare the subject styptic having a rapid and effective styptic action, hardly causing inflammatory response, hastening intracorporeal absorption and having high wound-curing effect, by including a specific sodium carboxymethylcellulose. SOLUTION: This styptic is prepared by including sodium carboxymethylcellulose which is polyvalent (or polyhydric) carboxymethyl ether of cellulose as an active principle. The content of sodium carboxymethylcellulose is pref. 5.1-12.8 wt.% and its degree of substitution (or its degree of etherification) is pref. 0.6-1.5. When the degree of substitution is 1.0 and the primary alcohol group alone is etherified, sodium carboxymethylcellulose has a structure of the formula, and on this occasion it is the most pref. that the content of sodium salt is 8.5 wt.%. The sodium carboxymethylcellulose is pref. sterilized with electron-beam radiation to depolymerize down to a molecular weight of 200-2,000 kDa. |
