PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stock for feed by lactic acid fermentation of wheat bran to confer nutritionally or functionally purely new value on the wheat bran whose use has been limited for reason that it has been nutritionally rated low. SOLUTION: This stock for feed is obtained by fermentation of wheat bran, and is preferably in such a fermented condition as to be <=pH 4.5 and >=7 in acidity. More precisely, this stock, i.e., a lactic acid fermented product of wheat bran, is obtained, pref. according to the following process: wheat bran is compounded with lactobacillus so that the lactobacillus stands at 10<2> to 10<6> counts as viable bacteria when mixed per g of a stock mixture comprising the wheat bran, the lactobacillus, mixed bacteria including the same, or a lactobacillus preparation (hereafter referred to as lactobacillus or the like) and water, and water is added to the system so that the total, water accounts for 25-55 wt.% of the stock mixture, the resulting mixture is then agitated with a low- speed agitator or an agitator with cooling function and subsequently fermented. It is recommended that this stock is formulated normally at 0.1-30 wt.% in an animal feed. |
