PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease a generation frequency of cleaning operations executed when a power is supplied to an apparatus. SOLUTION: A printing cumulative time after a cleaning operation is carried out is counted by a printing cumulative time detection means 57. An ink discharge mode in a recording head is selected by a discharge mode selection means 55 on the basis of the count data. After a page is changed to be printed and if a next print data is not left in a buffer or if a power source switch is turned off, a brushing operation or the cleaning operation is carried out by a brushing control means 56 or a cleaning control means 52 according to an instruction of the discharge mode selection means 55. The ink is completely discharged from the recording head and the apparatus is set in a normal print state, for instance, when a power source is turned on, so that a printing operation can be started promptly. |
