The metal cylinder head gasket has cover plate (1a) with openings (2) matching the bores. The gasket cover layers have indents (4) adjacent to the edges of the openings. The gasket includes a spring distortion limiter (9) for the indents. The limiter tapers radially outwardly so that the surface pressure in the area of the limiter is constant over its width.
