<p>A control mechanism for controlling the traffic over a digital communication link with variable link capacity, BER etc. is provided. The transmission capacity of a link is continuously monitored and a prediction of the available link capacity is made for at least one time unit in advance. According to a preferred embodiment, the prediction utilizes an adaptive linear predictor mechanism to forecast the future link capacity. Transmission and QoS parameters of existing connections are modified to match the predicted link capacity. New connections are admitted based on the predicted available link capacity.</p> |
