<p>1429962 Magnetic separators J M HUBER CORP 4 June 1973 [8 June 1972] 26627/73 Heading B2J A magnetic separator comprises a non- magnetic housing 30, e.g. of copper, stainless steel or plastics material, having inlet and outlet ports 35, 37 for enabling slurry or the like to be passed through the separator for treatment, and an electromagnetic coil 34 mounted centrally within the housing 30 which is otherwise completely filled with porous ferromagnetic material 20 such as steel wool or a porous ferrite. The material 20 constitutes a low reluctance closed magnetic circuit for the electromagnet, whereby the lines of force 38 are substantially all contained within the treatment housing 30. In a second embodiment, the 'housing is constituted by a hollow toroid packed with the ferromagnetic material, provided with inlet and outlet ports separated by a transverse baffle and surrounded by a coil, which itself may be enclosed within a second toroidal body packed with ferromagnetic material (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).</p> |
