PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively and industrially advantageously producing the subject compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing vitamin A and various perfume products at a low cost by reacting a specific hydroxytetrahydrofuran compound with formaldehyde in the presence of a carboxylic acid, etc., and then acylating the produced compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 4-acryloxy-2-formyl-butene compound of formula III [R<1> is H, a (substituted) aliphatic hydrocarbon or a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon] (for example, 4-acetoxy-2-formyl-butene) comprises reacting a hydroxytetrahydrofuran compound of formula I (R is H or methyl) (for example, 2-hydroxytetrahydrofuran) with formaldehyde in the presence of a carboxylic acid (for example, butyric acid) and a primary or secondary amine (for example, dibutylamine) at a temperature of, preferably, 50-150 deg.C and at a pressure of, preferably, 1-3 atm to form a compound of formula II (for example, 2-formyl-4-hydroxy-1-butene), and then acrylating the obtained compound of formula II with acetic anhydride, etc. |
