PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color image having high print quality by carrying a registration pattern to a specified position and stopping it at that position during color shift detecting operation thereby performing color shift correction accurately. SOLUTION: During carrying/stopping process, a registration pattern of each color formed on an intermediate transfer belt 2 is carried by turning the belt 2 with power from a drive means 4 and stopped oppositely to a CCD by a carrying/stopping control means 5. Finally, in a color shift detecting process, image of the registration pattern is picked up by a plurality of pixels in the CCD which detect the pixel position information of the registration pattern. Since the registration pattern is stationary, vibration due to slip of a belt is not generated, storage time of the CCD can be set arbitrarily and illuminance of a light source can be suppressed by setting a sufficient storage time. |
