1452474 Light guides NORTHERN ELECTRIC CO Ltd 11 June 1975 [21 June 1974] 25062/75 Heading G2J A connector for two optical fibres 19, 36 comprises a holding member 11, 25 for each fibre and a locating member 12 associated with one of members, 11, the member 12 having a groove (16), see Fig. 2 (not shown), into which the fibres 19, 36 are urged by resilient locking means 34, 35 when the members 11, 25 are assembled in opposed relationship. The members 11, 25 are correctly positioned by pin 29 and groove 18, and are held together by a nut 41. The means 34, 35 may be inherently resilient or be spring-loaded. In one modification, Figs. 6 to 10 (not shown), the locking member (50) is pushed down by a screw (55), and in another modification, Figs. 11 to 18 (not shown), the locating member (87) is integral with one of the holding members (85) and the locking member (76, Fig. 14) is resilient and U-shaped and is inserted into the other holding member (65) from one side. The members (65, 85) are assembled by lateral movement from a side-by-side position and are held in position by a sleeve (97). A plurality of pairs of fibres 116 may be connected, see Fig. 20, in which the locking member 110 is similar to (76) in the above described embodiment. |
