PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain β-spodumene ceramic useful for burning tools and insulating materials, which has high density and shows a high coefficient of water absorption, and to provide a method for producing β-spodumene ceramic from β-spodumene with a simple means by using α-spodumene which is naturally produced in large quantities. SOLUTION: The β-spodumene ceramic is an sintered body comprising substantially β-spodumene and has a density ρ of 1.35-2.35 g/cm<3> and a coefficient of water absorption ϕ (%) of <=(43.89-16.62 ρ). The production method for β-spodumene ceramic comprises forming β-spodumene, which has been obtained by the phase transition of natural α-spodumene at a high temp., and sintering thus obtained green body at a temp. of 1,050-1,390 deg.C. |
