ANTIPATHOGENIC MOLD PLANT AND ITS CREATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart the resistance to pathogenic molds to a plant and carry out the breeding of the plant by using a gene encoding an antibacterial peptide. SOLUTION: A gene encoding an antibacterial peptide such as Sarcotoxin 1a derived from an insect of the order Diptera and bound to a signal sequence of a vegetable protein is used to impart the resistance to pathogenic molds such as Rhizoctonia solani, Pythium aphanidermatur or Phytophthora infestans to a plant. The gene encoding the antibacterial peptide derived from the insect of the order Diptera in the form of an expression vector is transferred into the plant. The expression vector is preferably composed of (i) an expression cassette in which a recombinant gene having the gene is bound to a vegetable gene promoter such as a promoter of an inducible tobacco PRIa gene and (ii) a drug-resistant gene connected to a constitutionally expressible vegetable promoter and expressible in a cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter.
