PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate accumulation of a wiped ink beside a wiping area, remove the ink at a desired timing, prevent the removed ink from dropping, being transferred to a medium to be recorded, and maintain a good image quality. SOLUTION: Separately from a general first wiping operation, a second wiping operation is carried out, whereby a wiping means or a discharge element 3 is moved in a direction perpendicular to a wiping direction to a position shifted by a predetermined amount from a position at the first wiping operation. A breadth of a wiping blade butting with the discharge element 3 in the direction perpendicular to the wiping direction is made smaller than a breadth of a face 13 to be wiped of the discharge element 3. |
