PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cyclohexanone from benzene without waste by utilizing byproduct cyclohexane from CHE process (a combination of the partial hydrogenation of benzene with the hydration reaction of cyclohexene), and to provide a method for producingε-caprolactam without waste in a similar manner. SOLUTION: This method for producing cyclohexanone comprises a combination of the following two processes: (1) in the CHE process intended for producing cyclohexanol by hydration of cyclohexene formed by partial hydrogenation of benzene, byproduct cyclohexane is oxidized with molecular oxygen to form cyclohexanone, and (2) the cyclohexanol obtained by the CHE process is dehydrogenated to form cyclohexanone. The other objective method for producingε-caprolactam comprises using the cyclohexanone produced by the process 1 as a feedstock.
