<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the production of 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene excellent in view of yield, selectivity, conversion rate, catalytic life, etc. SOLUTION: 2,6-Dimethylnaphthalene is produced by reacting a naphthalene hydrocarbon selected from naphthalene, methylnaphthalene, dimethylnaphthalene, trimethylnaphthalene, tetramethylnaphthalene, pentamethylnaphthalene, hexamethylnaphthalene and their mixture with one or more kinds of benzene hydrocarbon selected from benzene, toluene, xylene, trimethylbenzene, tetramethylbenzene, pentamethylbenzene and/or hexamethylbenzene under at least partially liquid phase condition in the presence of a zeolite belonging to a structure-type MTW and optionally in the presence of a methylation agent.</p> |
