A method of welding together butt-joined strips, panels, bands of plastics, esp. for hot-welding of PVC consists of bringing the edges of the bands together but leaving a small gap between, and then applying a hot layer of PVC along the joint so as to cover all three surfaces of each band in the region of the joint, so that they are firmly embedded in the joint material. The joint material may either be extruded continuously or applied as a strip which is welded onto the faces of the bands and penetrates into the gap between them. Where strip material is used, the upper and lower faces of the joint may be formed either simultaneously or consecutively. Used in particular for joining the ends of water-bars in concrete structures, including the forming of complicated T - or cross-shaped joints. The method produces as better and more reliable joint than the fusing together of the material of the bands themselves. |
