<p>The parent patent describes an arrangement for closing the end of a tubular knitted article such as a stocking, cap, glove, etc. of synthetic weldable or fusible thread; the end of the article being narrowed down so that the material can be sealed across a much reduced section, and the goods be cut across this section and welded to form a thin core of threads bonded together. In this addn., the garment is narrowed down by means of plungers displaceable in the guides of a circular support plate which surrounds the workpiece. The working surface of the plungers ends in a curved profile which is displaced along the working surface of a neighbouring plunger whilst narrowing is taking place, to a point at which the curved profiles in contact with each other, define the reduced section of the tubular workpiece. The knitted tube is drawn in in such a way that a particularly even and uniform welded core results.</p> |
