<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize an industrial waste as a lightweight aggregate by firing a mixture of fly ash, sludge, a pulverized product of oyster shells, and a binder. SOLUTION: This artificial lightweight aggregate is obtained by mixing 100 pts.wt. fly ash, 20-40 pts.wt. sludge expressed in terms of the dried weight, 3-5 pts.wt. pulverized product of oyster shells, and a binder, and firing the obtained mixture at 1,120-1,200 deg.C. The mixture can be granulated and dried, and the dried product can be fired at the before temperature also to provide the artificial lightweight aggregate. When mixing the materials, for example, 30-40 pts.wt. water is preferably added to 100 pts.wt. mixture. The oyster shell can be pulverized before the mixing with other materials, or after the mixing. The sludge can be the one having any bottom materials. A water glass is preferable as the binder because of good luster and appearance, but a methyl cellulose and an organic paste can be also used. The amount of the compounded binder is preferably 1-5 pts.wt. when the binder is 10% solution of the water glass.</p> |
