FIELD: analyzing materials operating in chemically active media. SUBSTANCE: safety margin of metal at corrosion under mechanical stress is measured at time moment t<SB>1</SB>. Metal service period is evaluated from expression <EMI ID=0.285 HE=6 WI=21 TI=CHI>. For more accurate measurement of tau, S<SB>1</SB> is measured for several values of tj ( j = 1, 2 ...). Curve showing lgSj as function of Lgtj is constructed and approximated by straight line which is interpolated up to its intersection with X-axis and service period lgtau is determined by tau intersection point.
