Optical fibre cable with reinforcing wires extending longitudinally

The cable has an elliptical section to facilitate controlled flexing of cable. The cable comprises optical fibres (1) surrounded by a sleeve (2) consisting of at least one layer within which there are reinforcements.(4). The reinforcements comprise longitudinal wires which may be arranged in two pairs. In cross-section the cable has an external profile which is elliptical with the ellipse having a short axis (5.1) and a long axis (5.2). The reinforcements are situated adjacent to the long axis, but are symmetrically arranged w.r.t. the short axis of the ellipse. The degree of elliptic variation between the axes is between 1% and 10%.
