The exhaust pipe (17) enters an input end fitting with a flat endplate (12), a distance piece (10) and a perforated flat plate (6) in contact with the filling of the converter. This consists of a stack of discs (8,8a) inside a cylindrical casing (4). Alternate discs have channels (9) parallel to or skewed with respect to the axis of the casing. The outlet fitting is similar to the inlet fitting.
