An electrical machine having a wound rotor (2) arranged within the machine stator (10) and provided with a number of salient poles (3), and with electrical coils for generating an active magnetic field eddy or vortex between the rotor (2) and stator (10). Each coil (9) is wound around the rotor (2) yoke (4) between two adjacent poles (3), with one coil specifically extending over the total insulated width (E) of the yoke.
