The present invention relates to a transmission element for the transmission of power and/or moments, to an oscillation damper and to a method for oscillation damping. The transmission element has components that cooperate therewith and enable the transmission element to be oscillated in an asymmetrical manner. An asymmetrical oscillation damper (8) cooperates with the transmission element. The oscillation damper (8) which is especially designed for use in motor vehicles has a damping mass (9) and an elastic coupling element (10). The coupling element (10) cooperates with the oscillation damper (8) and has asymmetrical elastic properties on one active plane. In the method for damping oscillations, especially those of an automotive transmission element, damping takes place in various directions on one active plane with a respectively different damping rigidity.
