A second hydraulic accumulator is provided for a stand-alone safety system (6), using the supply pressure to act against the storage pressure of this second accumulator. The two accumulators share a storage space (3) and at pre-set upper storage pressure the piston bears on an endstop (7) in the cylinder (1), giving rise to a closed cylinder space. This space is divided by the secondary piston (8) into two chambers (9,10) of which chamber (9) adjoining the space (3) connects the safety system specified (6) and chamber (10) connects to atmosphere. The rod (11) of the secondary pistons (8) pierces the piston endface (11) towards the space (3) and is supported axially when the supply pressure falls below a pre-set value. The ratio of the piston rod (11) sectional area to that of the secondary piston is selected so as to set up low pre-pressure in the safety system (6).
