A heat-dispensing blanket (10) for covering and warming patients in a hospital, especially in a recovery or intensive care unit, has inside a flat electrical resistance heating unit extending over the whole surface. It can be supplied with voltage from an external voltage source. The heating unit has current-carrying resistance elements (26) which are flexible so that the resistance heating unit can be crumpled together, and which are inert against washing fluids containing chemical washing substances. The current-carrying resistance elements have carbon fibers. They are fixed to a wash-proof non-shrinking flat carrier material (34) of minimal thickness.
