The hinge assembly (2900) includes a stationary element such as a follower (2802), two moveable elements, such as a cam (2804) and a spring (2806), two friction washers (2808,2810) and a rod (2812). The follower comprises a body (2903), a shaft (2905), and Y-shaped connector (2901) which mates with an aperture in one of the knuckles of the radiotelephone body and locks the hinge assembly in place.
